Training & Therapeutic Approaches

Evidence-based methods, chosen to fit each client. Tap any one to read what it involves.

EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.

EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or alternating hand taps) to help the brain reprocess traumatic memories. The goal of EMDR is that over several sessions, the distressing memories lose some of their emotional intensity and become less overwhelming. EMDR can be used to treat several conditions, such as PTSD, anxiety, and grief. For more information, visit emdr.com.

The Flash Technique

A low-intensity approach to distressing memories.

The Flash Technique is a low-intensity way to reduce the distress attached to a painful memory. The client does not have to describe the memory. Instead, the client focuses on something positive and engaging, such as a favorite hobby, while briefly "flashing" toward the memory and back. The Flash Technique can be used by itself or in preparation for EMDR work.

Trauma-Informed CBT

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a trauma-informed lens.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) looks at the connections between thoughts, feelings, and actions, and teaches practical skills for changing patterns that keep clients stuck. A trauma-informed approach means the pace and structure of therapy are built around safety, choice, and trust.

Gottman Method for Couples

Level 1 training in research-based couples therapy.

The Gottman Method is based on more than four decades of research by Drs. John and Julie Gottman into what makes relationships succeed or struggle. Level 1 training prepares a therapist to assess a relationship's strengths and areas of concern and to use structured, practical exercises that help couples deepen their friendship, manage conflict without contempt, and build shared meaning.
